The Film Industry Facing the Virus

Filmmaking is of course a very important component of types of media in the Media Administrator’s bag of Media Arts. With the onslaught of COVID-19 the film industry in New York pretty much shut down. Now that a very slow layering in approach is being used for various industries, an unofficial movie crew was put together to face the Coronavirus.

Very Contagious

As you can seen in this picture, not all members of the crew are using masks, nor are they practicing social distancing. We hope that because of this that the other members of the crew don’t somehow catch the disease.

Mostly we wanted to get the message out to Media Administrators in the New York area that pulling a film together can very much be mind over matter,  meaning do your due diligences and make certain your crew follows the Covid guidelines.

A big part of media administration is overseeing social media projects. Presently we use client social media forms to link to their digital assets. Or to put it another way, for us social media is a way to amplify the message.  And the message is generated through the various digital projects that we create for our clients.

Desired Communication

Lately we’ve been thinking in the realm of social media about the components that social links to. These include a client’s primary website and niche ones that we sometimes create for them. The niche aspect gives us a way to concentrate the client’s message onto one site that is dedicated specifically to the communication desired at that time.

Traffic to a Primary Website

We’ll often do this niche projects in WordPress whereas clients’ main sites tend to be created in SquareSpace. Having a niche site that social media can connect to means being able to concentrate a client’s message and provides a forum that social media traffic can be driven to, in order to participate in some activity that connects her or him to the client’s primary website.

We ran a test recently asking people what they thought the term “Media Administration” really meant. Most people thought that it referred to someone who does social media. And they would be correct, but it stands for more than just that.

More than Just Social

A Media Administrator is a job that encompasses social media and more. The more has to do with other forms of media, like those involved in the web arts.

Media Administration is an Evolving Concept

Media Administration?

Along with Movie Process and NYC AIM, we are defining for ourselves on an ongoing basis what the term “Media Administration” really means. We’ve seen many different interpretations of it, several of them in conjunction with the concept of “communication.”

Back to the Beginning

When we first started this website we thought of “Media Administration” as being the manager for all things media such as video and even involving the Movie Process. But as time passes, more new ways of looking at the concept of “Media Administration. One thing that has happened and adds more value to the term, is the idea of Media Administration being integrated into education.

Taking it to the Colleges and Universities

A cool thing that has been happening right now is that colleges and universities are starting to offer Media Administration careers! We were offering educational apprenticeships with NYC AIM on media administration even before it was in vogue.


One of these is in a college’s graduate program called Arts and Media Administration. It is a program where students explore not-for-profit organizations. The Master’s Degree offers field studies and more. Also, for qualified candidates you can even get an MBA in this area! Imagine an MBA in Media Administration! And that’s not all. “Media Administration” is a Google trend!

What’s Your Definition of Media Administration?

Last year we had a post that asked for what “your definition of media administration” is. The results often linked social media to the term. Someone who strictly does social media for a company is known as a Social Media Manager. Therefore, it is likely that being a Media Administrator would have some social media duties along with communications activities.

Interdisciplinary Program

Another graduate program we found that used the term Media Administration even had a clever acronym for the degree which is CMA that stands for “Communication & Media Administration. It is described as being an:

“interdisciplinary program, which provides understanding and skills relevant to the workings of contemporary communication and media environments.”

All in all, Media Administration is taking off!

John Yianni Stamas’ Media Administration Side of Film and Marketing Project

A Project Years in the Making

I’ve known John Yianni Stamas for several years and have been hearing about his movie making procedure idea for quite a long time. So I was quite happy when he told me that he was first doing an experiment with his brother and then he was going to full out do his MultiMedia Movie Making Matrix and Methodology project.

The Challenge

John has long been interested in Media Administration which is one of the reasons he was a great supporter of this website publication in the early days. At one time in fact the plan was to have be the sponsor of his filmmaking system undertaking. This in a sense was his NYC AIM. For various reasons this didn’t work out but John Yianni Stamas is not one to shy away from a challenge.

Driven to Self Funding

I don’t remember why exactly he decided to do the project sooner rather than later, but for whatever reason there was a great urgency Stamas had for starting on the endeavor NOW! I was involved, especially in the beginning of the Thinkific version of the method. John again asked if Media Administration was interested in funding the experiment but we were unable to do so. So JYS went the self funding route.

A Message to Hollywood

Having spent time in Hollywood, Stamas felt that there was a lot of waste in the approach to making motion pictures. He was interested in having a kinder gentler approach that did not require a crew at all! I was one of the many folks who signed up to go through the educational documentation of Stamas’ procedure and I knew in that his process was in part was a message to Hollywood.

Time Management

Following along with Stamas’ process on Thinkific was a lot of fun. He literally uploaded the precise activities he was doing each and every day, seven days a week. He had a background from many years prior of being a Super 8 filmmaker which is actually good training for other film undertakings because you have to be very careful how you spend your time.

Working Out the Kinks

Stamas also did video production and editing for many years so he had those tools available to him. I wasn’t privy to the pre-project process that his brother oversaw, so I didn’t see a lot of the stages before the kinks were worked out. Having been a part of his NYC AIM program, I had heard of a lot about the approach.

Blockbusters the Future?

People ask me if they think that John Yianni Stamas was on the right track. They wonder if this really is the future of filmmaking! My answer to this question is a complicated one. On the one hand it is clear that the blockbusters (not the stores!) are doing well and are the primary motion pictures people see.

But I also can’t deny there is something to making a movie and then releasing it through, say, Amazon and then use something like Stamas’ Internet Guerrilla Marketing to drive traffic to it!

Manhattan Magician has chosen to work with the staff of Media Administration on the top secret endeavor known as “The ArtisticPreneur Project.” You heard it here first, it’s rumored that the now quite small website has big plans in the media community. They are believed to be working offline on many new pages to flesh out the the ArtisticPreneur site in keeping with ArtisticPreneur’s mission which is to empower ArtisticPreneurs with digital tools that they in turn use to promote themselves.

Growing Pains involving Video Film Web, Celebify and Lights Camera Read

ArtisticPreneur has been up and running for less than a year, but in that time they’ve already aligned themselves with some of the forces to be recognized in the digital media world including Video Film Web, Celebify, Lights Camera Read and now Media Administration. What is Media Administration bringing to the table in terms of website content? We have a strong knowledge of administration when it comes to media and are going over materials related to this topic which are being written by Manhattan Magician.

ArtisticPreneur’s True Reason for Building Out Content

When asked what the core reason is as to why they are expanding the content on their website, the answer seems to be that ArtisticPreneur is looking to dominate the ArtisticPreneur space by building organizational infrastructures with other like minded organizations thereby expanding their reach.

When Will ArtisticPreneur Unveil Their New Content?

There doesn’t seem to be any specific date yet when the new content is going to be featured on the ArtisticPreneur site. Offline the material they are amassing considerably but we’ve been told by Manhattan Magician who is overseeing the project that much of the content will likely be cut and that he’s not even sure if the new content will ever be uploaded. When asked why he said:

“At this stage of the game is not even sure they want to grow bigger. And by adding new content they are adding new reach to demographics they may not have had access to prior. But with this comes great responsibility and they are not even sure they have the bandwidth to handle it.”


It’s Time To Give DigiComArts the Credit They Deserve

DigiComArts worked on all the projects pictured. But they rarely get the thumbs up that they deserve. Instead all the praise goes to Lights Camera Read and Video Film Web. Let’s unite to recognize DigiComArts!

The New York Public Library Workshop Series

DigiComArts which is short of Digital Communication Arts as an entity sometimes doesn’t get the credit it deserves, especially when it come to the Lights Camera Read and Video Film Web workshop series that was done at various branches of the New York Public Library.

DigiComArts was Involved with the Celebrity Aspect

The interesting thing about this library series is that it had participation from celebrities. Not directly though. Here’s how it worked: DigicomArts and Video Film Web filmed interviews with celebrities during which they would discuss topics that would be helpful for kids, teens and young adults.

Then these videos were in turn integrated into the library workshops the target demographic of which was, of coures, kids, teens and young adults. Herein comes the rub. Video Film Web, because of them being known as a production company, generally got most of the credit for the celebrity interviews. But DigiComArts also played just as an important role often being involved such as deciding which student(s) would interview a particular celebrity.

DigiComArts and the Lack of Respect it Gets for Producing

Also, DigiComArts has issue with Lights Camera Read when it comes to producing. Lights Camera Read as you may know is perhaps best known as the long time producer, since 2010, for the community awars show, the Platinum PIAs.

And it is alleged that because of Lights Camera Read’s luster because of being an awards show producer, often gets more credit that DigiComArts. And the fact of the matter is that DigiComArts was just as much involved with producing the library workshop series as was Lights Camera Read.

Was DigiComArts More Involved in Producing the Workshop Series than Lights Camera Read?

Truth be told DigiComArts was possibly more hands on than Lights Camera Read. Because as the first incarnation of the educational series came to an end, it is reported that Lights Camera Read too less interest in the project because they were concentrating their energies on their “Starving Artist” to “ArtisticPreneur” idea.
