A Combo of All 3 Media Administration Definitions

When we of MediaAdministration.com say “Media Administration” we are implying a combination of all three definitions. In other words someone who is either a solopreneur or works for an arts organization and whose job it is to oversee social and digital media. Another name for this position is ArtisticPreneur.

What’s the Career Trend Definition of M.A.?

Being a Media Administrator or ArtisticPreneur can be quite daunting. It means having a lot on your plate. Social Media alone can be a full time vocation let alone doing digital media creation as well as overseeing your arts organization. Case in point, on the website “Career Trend” they describe a Social Media Administrator as being the person who serves as the brains behind an organization’s social media platforms. They also mention that the position requires the person to write and curate content designed to engage followers and promote the brand in a positive manner. CareerTrend.com also says that the job is a combination of marketing skills and social media expertise.

DigiComArts Weighs in Regarding M.A.

DigiComArts, an organization that has done media workshops for teens and young adults at the New York Public Library, says that they are helping to create the new pioneers of Media Administration. DigiComArts believes that the future is in the hands of ArtisticPreneurs. They go on further to say that individuals with backgrounds in the arts – including writers, filmmakers and actors etc. – make very good Media Administrators because of their creativity.

Entertainment Entrepreneurship Plays a Role

An ArtisticPrenuer using Media Administration can learn from Entertainment Entrepreneurs. When we recently contacted the blog EntertainmentEntrepreneurship.com, they said that they bring a certain performing arts excitement to the party for practitioners of Media Administration. The slogan of Entertainment Entrepreneurship is that “There’s no Business that’s not in Show Business.”

Media Administrators Need Artist Steps

The folks at ArtistSteps.org remind us that the ultimate goal of utilizing Media Administration is to get more customers, clients and fans. The Artist Steps organization serves up ideas on how to achieve this as well as some of the tools that can be used.

Tools of the ArtisticPreneur

And finally, there’s no better place to get information on being an ArtisticPreneur (or Media Administrator) than the site bearing the name ArtisticPreneur.com. The ArtisticPreneur blog recently had a post that examined some of the same Media Administration tools as those at ArtistSteps.org. They even give a step by step plan for using these tools. The gist of what they are saying is that to be a Media Administrator you need to study what it takes to be an ArtisticPreneur. You need to be proactive and create your own opportunities. As of the writing of this blog entry the new incarnation of Art Gush and their “How To” downloadable PDFs were not yet available. When the PDFs are available, you’ll have a quick and easy way to get the knowledge you need to succeed. Ultimately, the PDFs will help you decide if a career in Media Administration is right for you. What We as ArtisticPreneurs can Learn from Houdini

Houdini the Opportunity Creator
Houdini the Opportunity Creator

We as Media Administrators must always remember that at the heart we are ArtisticPreneurs. Being an ArtisticPreneur is not a new thing and there’s a lot that we can learn from famous ArtisticPreneurs like magician/escape artist Harry Houdini.

Houdini throughout his career never lost site of the fact that if he wanted opportunities he had to create them himself. He figured out early on that things were not going to go his way by relying on the people around him. He had to know where he wanted to be and then was able to leverage others to help him achieve it.

NYC Create is the New Rebranding of Lights Camera Read

newsletter
After much success as a weekly email newsletter, Lights Camera Read is rebranding as NYC Create. NYC Create will pick up where Lights Camera Read left off and provide for artists of all kinds – musicians, writers, filmmakers etc. – weekly tips on how to promote themselves, build their audience and ultimately monetize their art. This is big news in the media administration world because Lights Camera Read is perhaps best known as the producer since 2010 of the Platinum PIAs Community Awards Show for Artists Who are Making a Difference in NYC and Around the World. The question that everyone is wondering is if the mantle will be passed from Lights Camera Read to NYC Create in terms of producing the PIAs. At this point Media Administration does not know the answer to this question but as soon as it surfaces will report it! Also, ironically, there is another new organization that has “create” in its name and is predicted to be a very helpful national site. The site doesn’t exist yet, but when it does it will be at USAcreate.com. In fact, we have it on good authority that USAcreate.com will be offering products and services. They say they are going to be your media solution. And they will make it very easy to be able to administrate your media campaigns including four marketing packages as well as four monthly update solutions, each of which coincides with a particular package.

The Insecurity of the Creative Process

Media Administration Heart

One can feel very insecure while engaged in the creative process. Why? Probably because the process of creating is an emotional one as well as birthing new ideas. So the combination of emotion and new ideas can lead to second guessing. Such is the case with the new production “Thrillumentary” which is being done as a learning tool for the Art Gush Method of Digital Filmmaking. In the case of “Thrillumentary,” a one man show was taken and rewritten to include other characters. But because it started out as a single person theater piece it was heavy on the dialogue. The fear of the producers is that as a web series “Thrillumentary” will come off too verbally oriented and not enough with providing just visuals. Can’t wait for the production to start broadcasting its websisodes so we can weigh in with our opinion.

Our featured entrepreneur in this edition of Media Administration is Manny Ramirez. Manny, as a pharmacy owner, does something unique with his business to build community. He holds offline events at his pharmacy such as poetry readings. He also has built his pharmacy into a hub of the community in part because he has installed a soda fountain where locals gather.

Manny, for Lights Camera Read, recently gave a talk to teens at the Columbus Branch of the New York Public Library. The five minute video on this page shows some of the talk.
